22 Mai 2017 : AAWS (Alcoholics Anonymous World Services) introduit une plainte près la New York County Supreme Court (No. 652676/2017)
AAWS veut récupérer son bien !
“The manuscript is an original, historical document of unique importance to A.A.W.S., and undeniably is a critical piece of its history” and the defendants "are wrongfully detaining the manuscript for their own pecuniary gain"
Le manuscrit est un document original et historique d'une importance unique pour AAWS et, indéniablement, est une partie essentielle de son histoire, et les défendeurs "détiennent à tort le manuscrit pour leur propre gain pécuniaire".
A year after this inscription, AA says, Leach “expressly and irrevocably gifted” the manuscript to the organization in a signed and notarized letter. Leach died in 1985.
“However, due to either extreme negligence or potentially wrongful actions by individuals outside of A.A.W.S. at or around the time of Mr. Leach’s death, A.A.W.S. did not come into possession of the manuscript,” the 11-page complaint states. “Mr. Leach’s estate had no title in the manuscript. Rather, the title belonged, and remains, exclusively with A.A.W.S., pursuant to the terms of the irrevocable gift.”
It lost track of the manuscript for the better part of two decades, AA says, until it got reports of two Sotheby’s auctions, in 2004 and 2007.
The 2007 auction went to Alabama collector Ken Roberts, who reportedly bought the manuscript for $850,000 plus fees.

Un an après, Barry Leach (décédé en 1985) donne le manuscript à AA par lettre signée et notariée (avril 1979)
Mais AAWS n'a jamais reçu ni le manuscrit ni la lettre... (négligence, actions délictueuses ?)
AAWS n'a "retrouvé" la trace du manuscrit qu'au travers de 2 adjudications en 2004 et 2007.
En 2007, Ken Roberts, collectionneur d'Alabama, remporte l'adjudication pour 850 000 dollars + commissions.
Le 7 avril 2017, K. Roberts signale à AA qu'il met le manuscrit aux enchères.
NDLR : Histoire troublante à plus d'un titre, mais les archivistes AA savent que des documents disparaissent parfois dans des circonstances douteuses ou étonnantes...
