Eliot Taintor = Ruth Fitch Mason and George Mason

It is apparent they had a good working knowledge of Alcoholics Anonymous. Ruth Fitch was a writer and literary agent. Gregory Mason was an anthropologist and writer who was later chaired the Dept of Journalism at New York University.

The book was referenced in both the March and April 1945 AA Grapevines. There were two page articles discussing this book in both those editions.

The book is dedicated " To Bill and To all Other Member of AA". This dedication is to AA’s co-founder Bill Wilson. In the book he is referred to as Bill "Griffith" (Bill Wilson’s real middle name). There are also references to Ebby, Hank, Dr. Jellinek, and also talks of Towns Hospital.

The novel tells about an alcoholic who is introduced to Alcoholics Anonymous. The story centers around his first year in AA and the people who help during his introduction to the Twelve Steps.

Pensée du jour des AA

Quand je buvais, j'essayais toujours de me vanter. J'avais l'habitude de raconter des histoires qui m'avantageaient. Je les avais racontées si souvent que j'en croyais quelques-unes à moitié, même si je savais pertinemment qu'elles étaient fausses. J'avais l'habitude de fréquenter des bars sans prétention afin de me sentir supérieur aux autres clients. La raison pour laquelle j'essayais toujours de m'avantager, c'est que je savais au fond de mon cœur que je n'étais rien. C'était un mécanisme de défense contre mon sentiment d'infériorité.

Est-ce que je tente encore de me vanter ?

Méditation du jour

Dieu a pensé à l'univers et II l'a créé. Je suis une création de Sa pensée. Je dois penser comme Dieu pense. Je dois souvent me rappeler les pensées divines et méditer sur la façon dont Dieu m'appelle à vivre. Je dois constamment entraîner mon esprit à ces moments paisibles de communion avec Dieu. C'est l'œuvre d'une vie que d'atteindre son plein épanouissement spirituel. C'est la raison pour laquelle je suis sur la terre. Elle donne un sens à ma vie.

Je prie pour penser comme Dieu pense. Je prie pour vivre comme II m'appelle à le faire.
