AUSTRALIE INDES

AUSTRALIE INDES 1

WHY YOU ARE NEEDED

This is a unique 12th Step opportunity. Earlier in 2011 Valerie, our National Office Manager, attended the Asia/Oceania Service Meeting in Chandigarh, India. During the visit she was approached by Shrikanth, one of the delegates who is also a Regional Trustee of the Indian General Service Board.

Shrikanth had stated in his report to the AOSM “Perhaps the greatest challenges facing AA in India are the social stigma surrounding alcoholism and the concept of woman alcoholics. Due to changing social conditions there is a stiff increase in the number of women alcoholics in India and women from all strata of society are falling prey to the alcoholism. At present there are only five women’s groups in India and it remains a major worry for fellowship to approach them with the message.”

Shrikanth made an emotional plea for help. The only way the message will be carried to women in India is by other women. In a country with a population of over 1 billion people, there are currently only 13 female members in the whole of India. Alcoholism amongst women is a serious and growing problem in India.

WOMEN ALCOHOLICS IN INDIA ARE DYING because they are not getting help.

The project is fully supported by the Australian General Service Conference, the Australian General Service Board and National Office and the Indian General Service Board and General Service Office.
