Co-auteur de "Twelve steps and twelve traditions", avec Bill W.

Principal "éditeur" de la 2° édition du Big Book

Importante contribution à "Alcoholics Anonymous comes of age"

A écrit " The little doctor who loved drunks" (Grapevine, mai 1951) en hommage au Dr Silkworth

S'entendait tellement peu avec Bill W. qu'il quitta AA et fonda son propre programme de rétablissement (voir lien en bas d'article) - Aussi sombres histoires... privées...

Mais voici ce qu'en dit cependant Bill W., le 16 juin 1954 au 19° Founder's Day, à propos de la deuxième édition du Big Book, en introduisant Tom Powers, l'orateur principal :

"I hope you're going to like this new book. And if you do like it you can credit Tom with 50% of your liking because he is the guy who most painstakingly edited it and the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions before that."

A fondé un groupe "The Nut Club"  - 12 étapes ouvert à tous

A publié "First Questions on the Life of the Spirit" en 1959, réédité sous le titre "Invitation to a Great Experiment", en 1979

En 1961, à New York, a fondé "East Ridge Ricovery Facility" (ouvert à toutes les sortes de dépendants), devenu, en 1982-1983, "All Addicts Anonymous"
