Callers to free tow number directed to porn line

CARLSBAD, New Mexico. (AP) -

Oops, wrong number.

Some New Year's Eve revelers in Carlsbad had a little too much alcohol and called AAA 's toll-free number for a free tow home.
However, they received instructions to call a second toll-free number that offered pornographic conversation.

A spokesman for AAA Texas and New Mexico, Don Ronan, acknowledges the mistake and blames it on a typographical error. He also apologized to anyone who called the number but wasn't able to receive the tow offer.

Short's Wrecker Service owner Roger Short says his company has participated in the national and statewide Tipsy Tow program for the past 10 years. He wasn't aware that the toll-free number was incorrect until he was contacted by the Carlsbad Current-Argus ( link ).

"Un peu d'espoir contre l'alcoolisme"

Ce n'est pas la honte qui les fait agir ainsi, mais le désir d'encourager plus d'alcooliques à demander l'aide du groupe. C'est une règle universelle de base des Alcooliques anonymes afin de garantir que leur anonymat soit respecté ! Le but est de tendre la main à leurs semblables atteints de la même maladie et arracher au désespoir ceux qui souffrent encore dans l'alcool.
Les lieux de réunions sont assez restreints dans le Narbonnais, c'est la raison pour laquelle la mairie de Port-La-Nouvelle a mis à la disposition de Roger et Michel la salle du camping municipal (salle Baquerin) accessible par le Boulevard Francis-Vals. Elle sera ouverte aux réunions tous les mardis à 20 h. Le deuxième mardi de chaque mois, les familles concernées par ce problème d'alcool, pourront participer aux discussions et savoir que l'association est là pour les aider face à un problème qui leur semble aujourd'hui insoluble."...

An East Toledo half-way house and shelter could find itself out in the cold after a drop in donations leaves them with a whopping gas bill.

For decades The Idle Time Club has been a safe haven for alcoholics. It was founded in 1973 and provides sober support for those fighting to beat their disease. It provides shelter, meals, and support 24-hours a day. Twelve separate alcoholics anonymous meetings are held at the club each week.

Now The Idle Time Club needs community support to keep its heat on. The tight economy is hurting the organization and it may loose its gas service. It has received a shut off notice and has an outstanding bill of more than $9,500 thousand dollars
