This is the first printing from 1948. The back page of the first printing had no indication of authorship, making this book the earliest known printing. Subsequent Daytona Beach printings had the following statement added to the back page (372);
"Compiled by a member of the Group at Daytona Beach, Fla."
The author originally assembled the material on cards that he carried with him throughout the day to aid in his own sobriety.
In 1948, local members in Daytona Beach encouraged him print his "cards" in book form so they could have a copy too. He had some printed, and as the news quickly spread of his book, so did the demand for additional printings. The books were printed at the county printing press, and distributed from his home in Daytona Beach until 1954. It is reported that around 18,000 +/- books were printed between 1948-1954.
I do not know how many copies were done of this book in it's first form. I would imagine nobody does, but likely no more than a couple hundred for the local Daytona members of AA who originally requested copies of thier own. These pre-Hazelden, Twenty-Four hours a Day books are very rare.
